Zodiac-Aerazur, or Zodiac Aerospace, is a French aerospace equipment and system supplier that is currently a subsidiary of Safran S.A. Zodiac began in 1896 as Mallet, Mélandri et de Pitray, focusing on hydrogen balloon production. In 1909, the company rebranded themselves as Zodiac and entered the airplane and airship market, though they then shifted this focus again to boats and the water sport market in the 1930’s. In 1978, Zodiac acquired Aérazur Constructions Aéronautiques among other companies and began manufacturing aerospace products such as parachutes, evacuation slides, and more. During this time, they also continued to expand their marine segments.
In 2007, Zodiac left the marine business through selling their related segments and focused entirely on aerospace, naming themselves Zodiac Aerospace in 2008. After their rebranding, Zodiac continued their acquisitions, pushing into the aircraft cabin interior market with galleys, trolleys, electrical equipment, and beyond. In 2017, Safran acquired Zodiac Aerospace and they were merged together.
